Update: I am not recruiting postdocs or PhD students currently.
I am building an interdisciplinary lab and am actively recruiting students interested in HCI, computing or informatics, public health, and nursing. Please see the guidelines below if you are interested, and take a look at my past publications to determine if there’s a good fit. My email is azra.ismail AT emory.edu. Given the volume of emails, it is difficult to respond to every student. I will prioritize emails from students at Emory and Georgia Tech, as well as those responsive to the interests listed below. AI-generated emails will not receive a response.
What I am looking for from prospective students
Interest in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and/or experience with applied ML or NLP
Prior experience, training, or interest in care settings (broadly defined, may be within or outside the US)
Passion for community-driven work
Interest in interdisciplinary research
Commitment to learning and growing, and being an active community contributor!
How to apply for research opportunities at the CARE Lab?
Prospective PhD students (not recruiting in the Fall 2027 cycle)
Apply to the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics at Emory University here. The application deadline is typically January 1st. You can review the program expectations and application requirements on this link (Emory does NOT require a GRE score!). The program is fully funded if you are accepted, and Emory offers application fee waivers upon request for financial hardship. Additionally, send me an email that briefly describes your research interests, the institution and program that you are affiliated with, current advisors (if any), and your CV. Emails that are generic GPT-generated text will be ignored.
Current students at Emory or Atlanta
Already a graduate or undergraduate student at Emory or in the Atlanta area? Send me a brief email describing your research interests, the program you are affiliated with, any current advisors (if any), and your CV. You can apply to conduct research for credit, and a limited number of funded RA positions may be available (with priority given to senior students).
Others
Send me an email mentioning your research interests, the program that you are affiliated with, current advisors (if any), and your CV. Funded opportunities are not available, but happy to have a chat if there’s a strong alignment in research interests to find other modes of engagement!
